IMPORTANT MESSAGE!

The Mount Helena Swimming Club is currently in a recess and will not be operating in the 2024/25 season.

It is important to note that the club has not folded or ceased to exist, the club has simply entered a 12 Month recess until there is shire support for the heating and lighting of the Mount Helena Aquatic Centre to enable the club to complete a full season and expand its services to the community.

The Mt Helena Swimming Club is the only Swimming WA affiliated club in the shire and has been requesting shire support for the heating and lighting of the Mt Helena Aquatic Centre since 2020. The club has gained the support of the Education Minister Dr Tony Buti who has encouraged the club to apply for a Community Sport and Recreation Facility Fund grant. As the owner of the pool the support of the Education Minister is essential as it is located on Eastern Hills Senior High School property. This grant requires the support of the shire on application, which over the past four years to date has not been forthcoming.

We are hopeful that this support comes soon, as swimming is a year round sport and the shire chooses to close its pools each year between Easter and October. The Mount Helena Swimming Club is the only competitive swimming club in the metropolitan area that is unable to complete a full sporting season. The club has been operating for half seasons since 2020 and historically since the mid 1990’s. Currently the Shire provides only six months provision of aquatic facilities to the community which is unsustainable for any swimming club.

Until there is Mundaring Shire support for the heating and lighting of the Mt Helena Aquatic Centre the club intends to remain in recess and will start up again with the intention to develop further swimming programs such as swimming lessons, aquatic fitness programs and swimming squad programs for social, fitness and competitive swimmers of all ages.

We know that there is strong community support for the provision of these swimming programs and we encourage community members to voice their support to the Mundaring Shire Council Members.
